Back to Life as Usual...

It seems like the Planker family can't catch a break in the health department these days.  After fighting colds for most of the month of October, we thought we'd paid our dues for a while...ha!  Friday morning showed us otherwise when Mason woke up sick to his stomach.  Yuck!  We spent our whole weekend like this...

It was like a domino effect in our family as we all went down, one by one...Mason, then me, the Colton, and finally Mickey. It was AWFUL!!!  It made me grateful we only have two children.  I don't know how my mom did it with five of us.  God bless her!  It's so hard to take care of your sick kids when you are too sick to even stand up yourself.  Thank God for buckets, tons of towels, a washing machine, and Netflix...they were our lifesavers...and thank God we don't get sick often.  God bless those of you who tend to get sick frequently.  I don't know how you do it!

Thankfully we are all feeling much better and now that I've disinfected the house and made a BIG batch of chicken soup, we are back to life as usual...

Today kicked off with a lovely 7 mile run with my running buddy in the gorgeous weather before tackling the rest of the day.  We had some extra time this morning before we had to hit the road, so we took advantage of the opportunity to make some fun crafts...

...these little kits from Michaels are awesome since they have everything you need and they're always on sale.  I need to go get some more for Christmas fun since they were such a hit with the boys.

Our first stop of the morning was story time.  Today's featured stories were...

...what's not to love about animals??  It was a fun morning!

After story time, we headed off to Music class.  Today's favorites were the bells...

...and the train song...

...especially when it involves these hats.  Miss Rabe even got in on the action...

...fun times!!  We love her!  Reminds me of this book...

...if you haven't read it to your kids, you should.  It's a classic!

We finished up our morning with some stops at the Library where we got a surprise visit with Miss Lisa, the Fresh Market (hello cheap chicken, coffee,  and pork chops) and the Dollar Tree where we stocked up for our Operation Christmas Child boxes...

...the boys and I had fun picking out stuff we thought other kids might like.  I think they really got it when we talked about shopping for people who don't have as many toys as we have.  Gotta keep it simple at their age.  I'm excited to be able to track the package to see where it ends up.  You can find more info here.  It's an awesome organization and mission to help others.

After a little play time at home, which is so good to see again...

...now it's nap time and I wasted more time than I care to admit playing around with this little gem...

...go ahead and check it out.  You won't be sorry.  In the words of Mickey, it's "great brain candy."  Never gets old.   I dare you to resist making your own version.  Tis the season!

And on that note...have a LOVELY day.   :-)

A Busy Tuesday

Thank goodness the rain held off this morning and we were able to squeeze in Story Time.  Today's featured stories were...

I am definitely going to be on a Jane Cabrera kick.  Her illustrations are beautiful and her stories are based on songs children already know with nice, sweet twists.

I'm also a big fan of Mem Fox.  My boys loved this one and it helps teach lots of great vocabulary.

We had a fantastic time at music class with Miss Rabe, as always, but decided to keep the camera tucked away today.  We got to see some wonderful friends right after music class as I got back to my tutoring routine.  What a treat!

Our Tuesday morning craziness usually makes for a lovely naptime and today was no exception.  While the boys napped, I was able to get some cleaning in before tackling my Best Body Fitness Boot Camp workout.  I brought my "A" game today and kicked some butt with the my dumbbells.  It felt good!!  I like the concept of doing as many rounds of a circuit as possible in 15 minutes...keeps things interesting   Thanks, Tina.  I also got my core work in with a little Fit2Be totally transverse.

To top the day off, I got to spend the evening with some of my favorite ladies.  We had a great time grabbing dinner and playing trivia all while another wonderful friend of mine and her lovely daughter watched the boys for me.  It's such a treat to eat without adults!!  I am so blessed by my wonderful friends and don't know what I'd do without them!!  What a fun night!  We definitely need a rematch to redeem ourselves in the trivia department.

The smiling faces of two women who are getting a break from motherhood.  Yes, as a matter of fact I AM wearing that scarf AGAIN.  Love it!!

It was a gorgeous night for trivia at Blue Door.  Check out the panoramic view!!

Time to drink some tea and head to bed.  Looking forward to a pretty mellow day tomorrow.

Back to Music Class

It feels good to finally sit down...AHHHH!  This morning was go go go from the minute I woke up.  I ate breakfast while on FaceTime with my favorite man in the world, got the boys ready, and we hit the road for our first stop of the morning, Story Time.  This week's books were...

and...

I love the repetition of Two Little Monkeys; it definitely kept the busy toddlers' attention.  I just found a whole slew of books by Mem Fox that the boys and I enjoy so I think I may be on a bit of a Mem Fox kick for the next few weeks.  I'm looking forward to sharing them.  Dinosaur Roar was a bit hit too.  Who doesn't like colorful dinosaurs and opposites?

After story time, we were off the music class.  We were SO happy to be back with her.  There were lots of new faces in the class and we're looking forward to a fun semester.  I love watching the boys learn and interact with the teacher and the other students in the class.  They develop so much from one week to the next.  They never miss an opportunity to tickle the ivories...

Lots of boys and the token girl on the end.  So cute!

Miss Rabe is SOOO patient with the kids.  They LOVE her!

Our next stop was the gym for a little "me" time.  I did 45 minutes of intervals on the elliptical before calling it quits.  I wanted to get the boys home for lunch and was pretty hungry myself.  I rounded out my workout at home with two Fit2Be workouts.  The upper body one was surprisingly challenging and I'm still on my daily totally transverse kick.  As boring as it may be, it's healing my core so I'll keep at it.

I've spent the boys' nap time cleaning bathrooms and doing laundry but I'm at a standstill while I wait for the dryer so I figured there was no time like the present to quickly document my day.

I'm hoping to get the boys outside for some fresh air and maybe some finger painting this afternoon....we'll see how it goes.   I'm off to catch up on my Bible study before the boys wake up...
