Holiday Recap

Long time no see!  It's good to be home and back in the swing of things.  The boys and I got home last night from a 10 day trip to my hometown of Evansville, Indiana.  It was wonderful to be with my family for Christmas.  Enjoy the photo dump...

Our trip started off on the right foot when we stumbled across this lovely gift at the gas station...

Leah was a great helper on the plane.  She's got that baby whisperer gift I wish I had...

Indiana welcomed us with temps in the 20s.  I was immediately glad that I had splurged on good winter coats for the boys.

They couldn't get enough of the wide open space that is my parents' yard.  We loved it growing up too. Mason even got adventurous enough to go in the woods and Aaron came to the rescue!

The boys love their Uncle Aaron.

While we were home, I was able to join my family at a friend's annual Christmas party.  The four of us, including my sister, used to ride back and forth between Evansville and Concordia University when we were all in school together.  It was fun to catch up.

The boys finally got to wear their ties on Christmas day.  They were by far the best looking boys at church if I may say so myself.

It's practically impossible to get a photo of the two of them together.  We tried to entertain them with their Christmas gift from Aaron.  They are HUGE fans of his gifts.

They really didn't want to get their picture taken...they wanted to play with their new guitars from Grandma and Grandpa.

Can you say Rock Stars!  These things are pretty darn cool!  Grandma was smart and got two of them since she knew sharing would not go over well.

I was able to get the boys to stand pose with me long enough to capture us all in our "fancy" clothes.  It doesn't happen often so we had to be sure to document it.

We had a lovely Christmas day just hanging out with my family.

I'm not sure how we missed Miriam in this photo. She must have been playing with the boys...

The real fun came in the form of snow on Christmas night.  Not only did we get to see snow, as we had hoped, but we were lucky enough to get a blizzard that dumped 8 inches of snow that was topped off with 4 more inches 2 nights later.  GORGEOUS!

The house I grew up in.

The boys weren't too sure about it at first but ended up thinking it was pretty darn cool once they figured out the snowball aspect of it.

Colton was a big fan of the shovel.  He played with it every time we went outside.

After sitting around on my butt for the first few days I was there, it was actually nice to get out and help my parents shovel the LONG driveway.

I don't remember every enjoying shoveling as a kid.  The driveway used to be gravel and was NOT fun to try to clean off.  Now it's paved and my dad can use a snowblower.

The workout was not lost on him though.  He has discovered he needs a self-propelled blower.  He was more sore than the rest of us were from shoveling.    It was some heavy, wet snow.  The good kind for snowmen...

Leah and Miriam helped the boys make some small ones.  The boys loved checking on them every time we went outside.  We couldn't convince the boys that sledding was enjoyable but Leah and I had some fun getting a sled run started.  Check out her footwear...crazy girl!

What a fun time!  Now it's back to reality here in the sunshine state.  I'm ready to see what 2013 has in store for our family.  As always, I've got some self-improvement goals I want to work on in the new year...
  1. Heal my diastasis (split in my abdominal muscles)...I'm on my way with Beth at Fit2Be.
  2. Get back to running once I've worked on my core.
  3. Do a daily devotional.
  4. Practice yoga at least once a week.
  5. Read a book a month.
  6. Try one new recipe a week.
  7. Eat clean - focus on proteins, produce, MUCH LESS sugar.
  8. Be the best wife, mom, and friend I can be.
  9. Swallow my pride -- Ask for help when I need it.
  10. Get enough sleep.
Happy New Year!  Hope 2013 is full of blessings for everyone.
